RavenCon 11

RavenCon 11

What a great time this past weekend @ RavenCon 11! I have missed several signings recently so I was excited to be a guest at RavenCon this year.

I moderated my first panel (two actually). I did my first book reading, and of course took pictures with and of lots of folks.

I’m will be elaborating on the Con by doing a series of Blog post about my experience. Be sure to check them out!

In honor of MystiCon 2015, here is a little teaser from my upcoming release “Blood Loss”. While this book has been a long time coming, I want to thank everyone for their patience, understanding, support and encouragement.  The book is closer to being ready for release because of you, my readers and supporters. I’ll have some release dates for beta readers, bloggers, and the few supporters that have per-ordered very soon. Until then, please enjoy this teaser tidbit of “Blood Loss”…Baine Kelly's Blood Loss teaser

Octavia waited, impatiently, for Michael to show. He was to meet with Patrick and bring her a new girl, but of course something went wrong. Like it always did with those idiots. She didn’t even know why she kept them around anymore. This last girl didn’t last long. Died within weeks. She needed to up the count of pitiful humans. Why was running black market blood so difficult? She was pacing the dark dirt covered floor behind an abandoned warehouse near the James River. This was a meeting spot only a few knew about. She loved it here, it was right in Garrick’s backyard. She loved messing with him and watching his pain. Peace would never come for him. She would though. And very soon.

She circled back around toward the side of the building as headlights came into view. About fucking time!

She knew something was wrong when Michael got out of the car. Alone. Octavia bit back her anger. No sense in killing him yet. She needed help dumping the dead girl. When that was finished she might consider offing him.

“Where is Patrick and a new girl Michael?”

“Gone.”

“What do you mean gone?”

“When I got to the club he was gone and so was the girl he was after. I followed their scent to an ally not far from the club then nothing. I couldn’t track them any further. Someone else was there though but I don’t know who.”

She knew. Did Garrick figure out she was back.

This could be fun…

“It’s alright. Get this body dumped and go back to the club and find me another female.”

“Yes, Mam.”

Octavia started back toward her car, her foot hitting something sticking out of the ground. What the… The scent of rotting flesh engulfed her.

“Michael! Get over here with a shovel now!”

She watched as Michael shoved the shovel into the ground near her feet. A small hand was the first thing visible. She watched as Michael dug up the body of a young blonde female. Her throat had been torn out. Interesting, Octavia thought.

“It’s her!”

Octavia glanced up at the panic coming from Michael. “Her who?”

“The girl Patrick was after.”

Octavia took a closer look. The female hadn’t been dead long. Hours at most. Her kind could already smell the decaying flesh that mere humans wouldn’t smell for days. Finally she bent down peering at the dead girls face. Her face was covered with dirt, obviously from being buried. But there was something else. Bending closer she noticed it wasn’t just dirt covering the dead face. Taking a deep breath Octavia now understood what she was smelled. There was ash covering the body. And not just any ash.

Vampire ash.

She would bet her life that there in the shallow grave lay Patrick’s ashes with the body of the dead girl.

Only one person would have enough balls to send her a message like this.

Garrick knew.

Work in Progress

Work in Progress

WIP

Caution Writer working, approach with care

A writer’s work in progress (WIP) is often a mixed jumble of scenes, strings of thought, random quotes,  and other ideas. Not very often do they resemble what the finished works will. But they give the author a place to start stringing things together. Writers all have different styles. Some have to write the beginning to the end, other just write random scenes and then fit them together, some times it is a mix of those processes, and I’m sure there are a multitude of other process. But the key is that they all have a WIP. One of the reason that I don’t often share my WIP is that people are too critical, they don’t seem to understand what the WIP is. The WIP is just the bare bone ideas for the story. Often it is just the characters telling me what they want to do, so I write it down. Some times I like what they have to say and I work with them to see where it goes, other times I tell them tough, not going to happen! But on those rare occasion that I do share a scene with folks, I’m looking for feedback on the scene, not the grammar, not the spelling, not the punctuation. I want the emotions that you feel after reading it – the shock, the fear, the joy. I want the questions that you get – the how could (s)he do that, the how can you make that work. Like the outline, and the story board, the WIP is a guide that I use to pull the story together. This isn’t a beta read, it isn’t even the alpha read. So keep in mind that when an author shares with you a bit of their WIP, they are letting you in really early to see if they are on the right track and read it for the content of the story, not the accuracy of the quotation marks. To all my grammar Nazi friends out there, this is why you have to wait for beta books. I love you all, but you need to relax… 🙂

MystiCon 2015

MystiCon 2015 is just over a week away! I’m having a hard time containing my excitement. Right now my biggest concern is the weather. It seems that mother nature isn’t quite done with winter yet, and after a relatively quiet winter, we got 8″ of snow here at home, and to top that off, we are now being told that there may be more on the way. This of course, could make traveling to Roanoke next weekend rather difficult. For now, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that we get a bit of a warm up next week, at least enough to help reduce the snow totals and make travel safe. I’m excited about the list of panels I’m on.

  • How Spooky is Spooky?
  • Fandom Art
  • Ending Stories with a Bang or a WhimperMystiCon
  • Guilty Pleasures
  • Villains We Love to Hate

I’m also doing book signings on Saturday and Sunday. If you didn’t buy your ticket, sorry we’ll miss you as MystiCon 2015 is sold out. But if you did, I can’t wait to see you in Roanoke!

Featured Author of the Week

It has been a while since I did this, between life, writing, and etc, I have not been updating the blog. So hopefully this will be a return to normal postings. For those of you that are new, I am a member of the Paranormal, Fantasy, Dystopia and Romance Readers, Writers and Reviewers group on Goodreads (link here). One of the things that they do is help promote authors. Each week they have a featured Author and this week that author is Steve Downes. You can learn more about Steve on Goodreads or his wordpress site. Good luck Steve!

MystiCon 2015

MysticCon 2015 is just around the corner. We are talking about a little over three weeks away and I’m really excited because it is the first time I’ve been asked to be a “Guest Author” for one of the conventions. Having been a regular visitor of RavenCon in Richmond for a few year, I’m really excited to expand my “Con” experience by going to MystiCon this year.  While I’m really excited about attending and being a “Guest Author”, it got me wondering what exactly is a “Guest Author”? I see this title and others being thrown around a lot for these conventions and book signings, “Come See so and so, Guest Author” or “So and So is our Guest Author”.

Let us first start with, I’m excited and thrilled to have this attached to my name, but I was just wondering what it meant. So I asked around, and spoke with some of my fellow “Guest Authors” and figured out that it was MystiCona better way of saying, an individual that will be working the convention panels and activities. So basically in a nutshell, that was it. We, the authors, artist, musicians, etc, want to have the opportunity to talk with the fans and the folks that are interested in our crafts. The conventions, such as MystiCon, that we attend give us a platform to do so, and the folks at the conventions want us, the artisans, to know how important we are to the success of the event. So they give us a great sounding title, and let us pick panels that fit our needs and allow us to speak to the convention attendees that are interested in the same topics that we are. So, Thank you MystiCon for inviting me to be one of your “Guest Authors“, I am super excited to be one of many authors, musicians, artist, and other performers that you invited to attend and contribute. I just hope that the convention goers enjoy my panels as much as I enjoy being part of the event!  See you in Roanoke, VA in 3 weeks!

Thank you again for all your support!

Book Signing

I had a great time with the folks from the Hanover Writers Club @ the Annual Hanover Book Festival this past Saturday. For the second year in a row I won the ‘Best Display’!

2014 Hanover Book Festival

The Hanover Book Festival was a wonderful opportunity to share my writing and creativity. I was very excited to meet a couple of readers that have been following me. I want to express to them just how excited I was about getting to meet with them and share some of my plans for the series with them. Thank you for taking the time out of your day to visit with me. I also was able to meet a few new authors, and speak with a few old friends.

Thank you as always to Tina Glasneck for her continued support. If you are fan of murder/mystery, she is your go to gal, check out her full length novel ‘Thou Shall Not‘ and her newest  release the novella ‘Angels Cry‘.

Our good friend Harry Heckel was also there and he was very excited about the 4 book deal he is working on for Harper Voyager. The first ‘Once Upon a Rhyme‘ will be out at the end of August.

I also had the privilege of siting next to Costen Young who was at his first book signing for his debut Novel ‘In the Witch’s Shadow‘.

 Blood Loss

As I told several of the readers that approached me this weekend, Blood Loss is still on target to be release in time for MonsterFest 2014 @ the Chesapeake Central Library on  October 4th. I am working on a partnering with mobile blood drive for the event. Anyone that donates blood at the event will be able to come to by my table and get a free gift and be entered into a drawing for a few items including a copy of my new book and an  Amazon gift card. I’m really getting excited and I can’t wait to share this with everyone that has been so supportive and waiting patiently.

Other News

I have some really exciting news to share, I hate to be a tease, but keep watching this space. I’m not quite ready to let the cat out of the bag so to speak, but I’m hoping to have something else to share with you on October 4th. You’ll just have to wait and watch here for updates…

ZZ is coming…

Again, I want to thank everyone for all their support!

Blog Testing

We are doing some Blog testing the site today.

Unfortunately we seem to have lost the old Blog when we migrated our hosting.

We are having to recreate and we are missing some plugins and users will have to create new accounts unless you are using one of the other social media logins.

Everything appears to be working correctly, but we want to be sure.

Please report any issues to the administrator.

Thanks
